Microsoft support site gave me an exact match:

but they say it's because the MIME-type and the extension on their site is incorrect. But this happens on all the sites.

Is there some setting i'm missing in IE? It happened w/IE5.5 and then I upgraded to 6.0 and it still is occuring.

Thanks

I would go into Acrobat reader and uncheck the option to use the web browser integration. That will allow the PDF file to be opened outside of the browser.

Or if you really need to have the PDF open within the browser you may try to go into the security settings for the appropriate zone and enabling the Active X control "Initialize and script ActiveX control not marked as safe" joegz
