IE 5 / VirusScan Problem

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional.

When I boot up, I get this error:

mcshield.exe application error -
Instruction at "0x0150088f" references memory at "0x00000000." The memory could not be "read".

I cancel out of it and everything works fine except for IE.

When I try to launch IE, I get similar error messages (different numbers in the parens but same message) and IE shuts down.

Everything else runs fine.

Any idea what this is and how to fix it?

What version/engine and dats of mcafee are you running?
I have seen similiar problems happen when new dats are installed on an old engine....
