I have IE 5.50.4134.0600 update Versions: SP2 installed under Win 2000 pro. I downloaded Microsoft's latest security patch q316059.exe. When I execute this program it simply states that IE 5.5 SP2 is required. I had the same experience with an earlier security patch. Clearly the update does not recognize the IE level reported to me under help/about. Does anyone understand what is going on here and what must be done to fix it?

I have had no problems applying the patch to SP1 and SP2. It does not seem as though you have a true SP2. Your help/about IE should say:

version 5.50.4807.2300
update versions:; SP2 + other patches you may have applied

5.50.4134.0600 is the first commercial release of IE5.5 after the version that came with Win Me (4134.0100).

I would go to the MS site and try the upgrade to SP2 then the patch. If its truely thinks you already have SP2 but its not being recognised, then I can't help. You could see if there is anything on Fred Langa's site or Woodys Windows Watch.

Thanks for the response, that's valuable information.
