I am having two problems with IE 5.5:
1) In some sites just moving the cursor over a link and then away without clicking causes an IE error dialog to display. The dialog does not mention the type of error or address. Pressing the OK button causes all open instances of internet explorer to close. Whatever the root problem is that is causing this also seems to affect my ability to install web publishing software and messenger software.
2) I tried using the repair tool for IE but that did not resolve the problem. I then tried to uninstall IE 5.5, and while it took the listing out of the Add/Remove Programs list, it apparently did not remove the program. I then tried to reinstall IE 5.5 on top of itself. Every time I do this the completion indicator gets to 96% and then it just sits there forever (we're talking hours). It either never completes or restarts the machine autonomously.
Can anyone tell me how to get IE 5.5 fixed, or how to revert to the previous configuration when IE 5.5 is no longer listed in Add/Remove Programs? Any ideas on how to force the machine to complete the reinstallation of IE 5.5?
Thanks for any assistance.
