IE 5.5 has disappeared from my add/remove programs list, and I can't run repair IE.

Any ideas?

reghakr,

I've done as you said, but I only get 2 or the 3 options available. I can get add a component & restore previous configuration, but the Repair option is greyed out.

Marvellous tip though !!

There is an undocumented trick but I doubt if it will work if your previous configuration was not backed-up. I think the best way would be to install IE6, then it will appear in Add/Remove.

I take no responsibility for this hack:

This is totally undocumented, but if your confident with your registry skills and you're running Win98SE and you want to restore or repair Internet Explorer and it doesn't appear in Add/Remove Programs or under the Tools Menu of System Information, then go to Start>Run, type regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\IE Setup\Options
Right-click on Options and choose new>DWORD value, name it AllowUninstall, right-click on it, choose modify and give it a value of 1

Or navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup
If there is a value named DisableRepair, highlight it, right-click, choose modify and change its value to 0. Go to View>Refresh, close regedit, then click on an empty area of the desktop and hit F5.

Now go back to Run, and type in rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance

reghakr,
Thanks again. I followed your 2nd suggestion, but you were right. It un greyed the repair box, but upon running produced an error, giving a list of files that needed to be greater than version 5.50.xxxxxxx etc

Is IE6 recommended

Thanks again reghakr

I can recommend it.

I've been using it since the first beta came out and have had no problems. I love the cookie and privacy features.

Cheers reghakr,
I shall download it and give it the once over.

Thanks for the top tip
