For some reason IE 5.5 stops running. Clicking on the shortcut or exe produces a quick hour glass then nothing. Uninstalling and reinstalling fixes the problem. Anyone any ideas what is getting damaged to stop IE running. I have been unable to break IE but our students manage it

Unistall Internet Explorer again.
go into the registry, start->run->regedit, and do a search for any instance of iexplorer.exe, delete all settings related to Internet Explorer. Make sure to back up your registry first by going into Regedit->File->Export Registry File adn simply double click on that file if something goes funky..

good luck

I am having a similar problem and have reported it in another thread, except the only difference was that I got the splash screen. Was this problem ever resolved? If so, was anything new learned?

Thanks

My wife's PC had this problem after upgrading to 5.0 and I had to turn down the video accelerator. Once I did this the problem went away. Here's how I did it:
From the Control Panel open "Display"-->Settings-->Advanced-->Performance. On the Performance panel is a slider bar. Just move it one notch to the left and then click OK or Apply (I don't recall which it is). Then give IE another try and see if that fixes it. If not move it another notch to the left and try again. Seems to me I had to go down 2 settings to get the wifes PC to work.
Hope this helps. Mark
