Recently, when I play video files (avi) on the net, the clips play in IE instead of Windows Media Player. Since my IE window is maximized, the quality of these videos is poor. I don't remember changing file associations, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Check your file associations in Wndows Explorer for AVI files. How is the file association built?

Under "Registered file types", .avi is listed as
Open with - RUNDLL32. I assume this isn't what I want. How do I change it?
Thanks for the reply.

Depending on what OS you are using the steps can be a little different.

First try opening media player going to OPTIONS and then FORMATS. Select that you want VIDEO FILES as an available format click OK and that should update the file association. If it does not then the next set of steps is how you can manually correct this.

You already know where the file association for AVI is located. You can select the file type click on EDIT (If you are on W2K click on ADVANCED and then EDIT). Select OPEN and click EDIT. For the command line enter something like:

"C:\Program Files\Windows Media player\mplayer2.exe"
/Play "%L"

(The above should read as one line with a space before the /Play switch)

You may need to modify the path depending on where you actually installed you media player application. Click OK until all the windows are closed and try playing an AVI file.
