Hi
We have a problem at one of our customers sites. The server is a Windows 2000 SP2 with MF XP FR1. One of the applications used is a business system, Navision Financials client ver 2.60D which connects to a SQL database. When the users run Navision and leave their client computer idle for a while the processor on the MetaFrame server sometimes goes up to 100 % usage and everything else slows down. When the user returns to his computer and moves the mouse the processor on the server goes back to normal. Has anyone seen something like this? All input on this matter is very welcome.

Try having a look using performance monitor on the Citrix Server to see which process is causing 100% utilisation....

Is this a DOS based app....??? I've heard of DOS apps which use a routine which checks for keyboard utilisation constantly when there is no "real" input from the client...they eventually end up in a "loop" checking for input...????

We know what process it is that causes this. It is the Navision Financials exe-file. The application is a Win32 application that accesses a SQL database and it works fine otherwise. I just can't figure out why it uses 100 % CPU when a user is idle

Does each client start this process when they run the application......???? How long does it take between the idle client and the process going to 100%....is the timing consistent....??? Are there any configurable options on the app, like a demo mode or screen saver...????

Hof,
I am having the same problem with Navision Financials. Did you find a solution?
Thanks.

I have 4 clients that are running Navision 2.5-3.1 on Citrix NT4TSE, MF1.8, MF XP
Inhouse we have every Navision client running on our citrix MF XP server
I have found on older navision clients that not installing(using the setup.exe or .msi)the program on the server and copying the program files Directory from the CD to the citrix server, publishing finSQL.exe and Redirect the Temppath and the ID (Refer to document ID 11963 on navision's site or your NSC) works the best you should look into upgrading to Attain where these issues have been worked out also check if there is a process called CPUMONI.exe running this will cause the 100% CPU usage

Navision has their own process monitor which will cause the Windows Process Monitor to give erroneous 100% CPU usage. You can merely rename the Navision file and this will eliminate this problem. The Navision file is called: CPUMONI.EXE. Also, idle users in Navision can hold onto to memory. You can either set the sessions to end after a set time of inactivity or terminate the process open by the idle user and watch the CPU monitor drop immediately.

Hope this helps, it did with our problems. (that and adding another CPU and doubling memory!!!)

I have the same problem.
I have see cpu go in 100% when the mouse have at "tools-tip" The small help tekst.

If a user go to pause, and live the mouse in the screen, where the tools-tip come, the server run 100% load.

If the user not use mouse. There are no problem.

Bud I don't more

Hi,

This is a problem. Windows shares dll's to spare memmory. When installing more then one Navision servers this problem could occur.

And then again, not always. It seem to occur only when in one of the databases runed by one of the servers developments are being made. If this is the case, my advice is to install the second server on a different machine.

I'm not completly sure this is the same problem that you guys have in the combination Navision / Cytrix.
