Hello,

Has anyone thought or have a way to empower the users to easily add a network printer?

I have have taped the instructions on the printer "to add this printer, start->run type in \\XXXX\ZZZZ and press enter"

I was thinking, how about a way to have an online map/floor-plan that shows all the printers and allows the users to add/remove and change default printer by clicking on the map...

I was tossing this idea out before I try to re-invent the wheel to see if anyone else has any suggestions or advise.

I do desktop support for a company 500 users, one building. And my time could be spent better elsewhere instead of running around adding and removing printers for end users.

Thanks!

If you put the drivers on a network drive and if the drivers are already configured (Port, Tray sizes, finisher options or other accessories, it seems to me to be simple enough task for them to add the printer. Prepare an e-mail with the required clicks.
Of course, you can make things foolproof but you cant make them damn foolproof!

Yah, all the drivers are on the server, so thats not an issue, i mean we have a floorplan, and I was thinking about tying it to an HTML page, I guess the main advantage I would like to maybe do is letting the users to click on the printer and add it, remove it, set it as default and have those functions automated...
