identity switch cancelled

i'm using outlook 2003 with two profiles. when i fire up either one i get "identity switch cancelled" error, telling me another application was unable to switch.
i've seen documentation about outlook express, but it doesn't seem to apply to outlook 2003.

well i don't have time to figure this one out, so i just deleted and recreated the windows profile.
