Identifying who is logged on

I'm developing a questionnaire to find out about remote users. I want the questionnaire to remain anonymous but would really like a hidden field inside the page to retrieve the user id of the person filling it out. Has anyone come across a script that does this?

You would use cookies or a session variable to gather the ID - try a google search to find sample code. If you can't find anything, post back.
