Hi!

I would like to use my HMC to identify PCI slots in my p650 box. (HMC v3 for POWER4 systems). Is it possible at all when the slot is not part of any active LPAR?

I can identify slots using drslot command, when AiX is running. I would need something similar that can be used on HMC.

Right click on the server (not on a partition) and select properties

It's ok for my hmc with power5 server.

Log on to your HMC and run:

lshwres -r io --rsubtype slot -m <managed system>

that works on my power5 HMC.
For power4 HMC the command might be slightly different.

Hi!

Thanks for the advices, but I think you misunderstood my need. Whai I need is the following:

When I have an AiX LPAR, I can issue a "drslot -i -c pci -l _something_" command to identify a PCI slot. It lights up a tiny orange LED on the SLOT ITSELF!

I would need the same functionality with the HMC. A command which I can issue to do the same as with drslot, but with no active LPAR.

I think you cannot.
I think the AIX method uses one of the diagnostics task selection functions to toggle the power light on the slot, but if that slot is not in an LPAR, you have no AIX in control so no means of controlling the light.
But you can search the service guide - - location information for your _something_ string and it will let you know which slot it is.
If you have I/O drawers you might need to play with the "dd" bit in the U0.dd- part of your location code to establish which I/O drawer.
In the book the location codes start on page 32 and include the CEC, D10 and D20 I/O drawers.
Let us know how you get on.
