Hi there,

I have a customer who is on a PRI with over 100 DID #'s. I have been programming and installing phones for over 12 years, Avaya, Comdial and Nortel. The company I work for is an Avaya dealer and we bought out a Telecom company 2 years ago. That company installed Nortel and Avaya phone systems. I am certified on Avaya and Comdial Switches. I have learned Nortel through on the job training the past 12 years, but still don't know it all and Nortel has been a weak spot for me.

This customer is wanting to add DID's that haven't been assigned to a phone yet (M7310's). All They have is the phone # that hasn't been assigned to a phone. The documentation doesn't show how they are assigned in the Nortel switch for example: Line 001 = (555)555-5555. I checked the Line name in programming and they programmed it to say "Line001". This is not helpful when trying to find a DID #. I tried making test calls, but every DID # I call says Line001 when I call it.

I have the list of all the Customer's phone #'s that are on the PRI. How would I go about looking to see how these numbers are assigned to the Line programming in the Nortel Switch? Again the company who installed this didn't make documentation of how the lines were assigned.

Any ideas on how to solve this would be appreciated.

If the technician before you didn't take the time to name the DID's then you will have to look through the received digits on the target lines and see if they are being applied to any sets or not. You can start looking at lines 145- or 157- it depends on your software release where your target lines start. On Norstar's DID numbers get programmed onto target lines and then in return get applied to the proper set, if your system is set up right then your exts. should match your DID's.

Ok, from what I saw in the documentation they did have a lot of the DID#'s that are in the 157 to 199 area. But, it didn't tell me which DID was assigned to lines 157 through 199. I will look into the Target lines again. I may have been looking in the wrong area of programming for the Target lines.

Thanks.

Your looking for the received numbers that are programmed under each target line. You will find out that it's good practice to take the extra time to name all your lines.

Yeah, I know to name all my lines properly when I program a switch, but this programmer that did the programming for this switch didn't. It definitely makes it frustrating. And to explain it to my customer who knows nothing about programming phones makes it even better.

Thanks again for your help.
