While this really isn't XP per se, but since I'm attempting this from an XP machine, I'll try here.

We have a workstation which accesses a website, that has a variety of ActiveX controls in it (form data entry etc). Unfortunately the machine in question is not prompted to install the control, and I've no idea what the control is called.

Is anyone aware of a way to find out which control a page is attempting to call, so that I might manually install it?

Much obliged.

Launch IE, go to tools > internet options and select the security tab. Click the Internet icon and choose custom, this is where you can configure your active X controls. While you probably won't be able to identify which control you need to manipulate, a bit of "try this and see if it works" methood should get the site working for you. Good luck!

H, Chris.

Thanks for your reply. I have had a butcher's at the IE permissions for ActiveX control, without any real luck. It doesn't work under Firefox either, so I am beginning to think there are underlying problems with the OS itself. I was hoping there was a way to identify what the control was called, but the source code doesn't give much away, I suppose the naming could be proprietary.

Oh well! Thank you for your input.

To view the currently installed IE addons, go to tools-> Internet options->Programs->Manage Add Ons.

This will display all of the Active X controls that are installed. This should help or at least be a starting point for you.

Wonderful, I think that will do the job nicely. Much appreciated.
