Identifying a Ports usage and configuration 2

I was call out to a client as a phone installed keps going to the company's fax machine. there were enough ports to just change them but I need to find out why thuis particular port is doing that there was nothing connected to it when I initially installed the phone.

One possible reason could be that the trunks is loop start and has been assigned to both extension. If vm is off for the user extension then the fax would pickup after x rings.

You really should try to describe the exact system, extension type and trunking type of your issue. Also routing if the trunking is PRI

You might also post prints of the stations of interest. That way many eyes can look at it for evaluation, and provide feedback.

And if you don't know the extension number in question, simply go to Maintenance > Port > Station. When prompted for the Extension number (Station number), enter *sspp where ss is the slot number and pp is the port number.

So if you trace a cable to Slot 7 Port 3, Enter *0703 (don't forget to preface with a star). When you then choose Status, you'll get the Extension number. From there you know what to print out.

I bet someone reading this right now has worked on Magix for years and still didn't know that trick. It's a cool one.

When programming, anytime you are requested to enter an extension number, you can dial *sspp or #Logical ID

So, for instance, if you are setting up a Messaging, you don't know the extension numbers of the ports, you can go to Calling Groups, Members, and dial *sspp for each port. They will be added to the group, and if you inspect you will see the extension numbers.
