I am working on a machine that is using an ata promise raid -- 2 drives - disk mirroring (raid1). The operating system didn't want to boot so I decided to do a safe recovery - install win98 over the top of itself. Usually works on fixing this type of error unless the registry is really hacked up. Started the computer up with the EBD floppy and started the install. The system didn't really recognise the raid -- window came up asking if the system was configured properly - continued on with the install but it locked up the detecting new hardware or plug and play devices. Restarted computer and restarted install - this time scandisk had to run - found bad sector at the end of the drive and wouldn't continue install. How do I fix this situation - don't want to loose data on the drive. Is this a usual situation with these raid ata drives - where win98 doesn't recognise the hardware>>>>
thanx for any help.
