Hi folks

Trying to use an install of VB.NET 2005 here at work, but when I load a project and try to open anything other than a code module I get an error message stating there is no editor installed to display a file type of X (.vb forms in particular).

I'd rather not bother the help desk with this - obviously something got broke or changed at some point. VS 2005 used to work on this machine about 2 years ago, sometime after 2008 was installed it stopped working.

Anything I can do to correct this? I've tried looking through the IDE Options menu and I don't see anything that sounds like this...

Thanks

Is this perhaps a VS2005 install for BIDS? Meaning it was installed as part of a SQL Server 2005 installation and not a true VS2005 install?

When you install SQL2005, VS2005 is also installed - with the extensions and setup needs to work on ReportServer projects. But there is nothing included for normal Windows/Web forms.

Hi Robert - interesting idea but no, it was a full VS install which worked fine up until about a year or so ago. We don't do a lot in 2005 do it's never been an issue, right now it would be helpful if I could get it to work for a project I need to do some work on. Not really ready to port it up yet.

My next suggestion would be trying a repair on the installation then...Don't know if that requires your Help Desk involvement.

Yeah, I was kind of figuring it might, just wanted to see if there was something I could do with a setting or a reference or something.
