Hi

I want to buy a 120GB IDE HDD for Compaq ML-350 server, which will be installed in the integrated IDE Controller. Will this work?

short answer = no

The ide controller will work for a cdrom device but not for a hard drive.

I would check that answer. Although Compaq say it does not work, what they actually mean is that they do not support such a configuration. That's their official stance.

We have had posts in this forum before about this and people have said it does work, it's just that Compaq will not support a configuration. After all, an IDE controller is an IDE controller - any IDE device should work.

The only issues you may get is that the BIOS will not recognise the hard disk. To get it to boot however, you may be able to set the IDE port to first boot. Another issue is that if you do get it working, it might not see the whole hard drive size. I suppose without trying it, you'll never know. -----------------------------------------------------

Of course it may matter which generation of ml-350 we are talking about but , I HAVE tried it with G1 beige front, G1 silver front (4 bay), G2 silver front (6 bay)......
