Hi All

My laptop is now getting this error message on booting, freezes and the screen flickers and it will not boot into Win XP until after a number of attemps etc.

I have done nothing to the laptop eg like install a drive or changed any setttings.

It is a Toshiba Satellite (can't remember the model - it is at home) running WinXP. I have searched on Google and the posts say a CD/DVD drive problem but all talk about installing new drives whcih I haven's done.

Any suggestions please.

Tee.

Make sure the IDE 1(primary) channel is enabled in BIOS.
If that's ok, then make sure the HD's IDE cable is securely connected at both ends.
If that's ok, then connect the HD to the IDE 2 channel by itself. If that works, then the IDE 1 controller may be bad.
If connecting the HD to the IDE 2 channel does not work, then install a different known working IDE cable.
