Hello guys,

my problem is, i exported my InDesign file to PDF, reimported and layouted it again, and now i don't see any possibility to get the new file printed or exported to PDF or PS.

When trying exporting, I just get the error-message: Failed to export the PDF-File
When Printing, there comes: Printing Error:There is a problem with the font "VBPAAA+HelveticaNeue-Light".

But it is not further specified what the error is.

Is there any way to have my file as a PDF without too much effort of time?

Thanks a lot.

Your fonts were not embeded when you exported it...

I never, ever, ever export to PDF, because bad things happen...

Print to a postscript file then distil it to a PDF, this will embed fonts, you can then import the PDF in again and make a Postscript files and distil to a PDF.

I never, ever, ever export to PDF, because bad things happen...

I'm not sure what things happen when you export directly to PDF from InDesign (not sure what version you're using), but I export directly for all of my jobs...the latest being a 9-color job that went to PDF to a printshop I'd never used...went flawlessly.

When you distill your PDFs (through Distiller), the transparency is flattened which sometimes is not what is needed. I prefer to export Acrobat 5+ PDFs directly from InD, leaving the transparency unflattened, and allow the output provider to control all the output settings.

As far as the font problem jpaar was having...it's hard to track down font issues some times. When you export to PDF from InDesign, all fonts are automatically embedded (if permissions allow it...most do). Permissions could be messed up or it could be an old, or corrupt font and it didn't like being nested.

Granted.
Sometimes Exporting is the way to go.
and not knowing jpaar's skill level, I was trying to keep it as simple as possible.

I'm using the latest Software patched as far as it goes.

I've had, when having to Export, as a last resort, had elements jump to the front, Knockout suddenly overprint, fonts drop out Colours Shift Line weight change or dissappear alltogether.

Now these have happened on more then one occasion and on different machines.

I don't trust the Export Function on either InDeisgn or Quark.

Unless I absolutly have to, I never export.
And if you setup the flattener setting correctly you shouldn't have a problem with the Printshop.

The fonts do not automatically embed, they run off the Acrobat Distiler setting, so if this user doesn't have "embed all fonts" tick on, in his Distiler settings then, he will have problems.
