I was just wondering what is the point of linking images in the ID document. I had recieved only the ID document from another person without the graphics and pictures that were used in the document itself, but the images still appear in the ID document. What is the point of linking images and is it necessary to do this?

Because they will be Low Res representations of the high res link.
Unless of course they have embeded the image into the ID File, in which case they won't need to supply the linked image.
