We have a problem at Our Organization where users will double click an icon on the desktop and it goes into renaming mode. Well Our users will type in password info or user IDs into the icon name and rename the icon. This is not very good for security, thank you Microsoft. Is there a way to prevent the user to rename an icon on the desktop. We are using user profiles and policies on Win95 PCs. I am unable to find any info to this problem using user policies. TIA

-RobDog

If you change the properties of the shortcut to "Read Only" it will cause a pop-up warning message "Are you sure you wish to rename the read only. . . ." yes/no prompt. It won't stop the renaming, but it may slow it down. If you were using NT you could change the NTFS permissions on the shortcut to read only to prevent access completely. . .

Hope this helps!
