hi All,

I'm wondering if any of you know where I can find some cool (and free) icons for my vfp app. I'm talking about icons for the 'push buttons' in my app. Any suggestions?

thanks,
jj

JJ,

Take a look at:

They're mainly icons intended for web pages, but they work just as well in a VFP app.

Note that, although they are described as free, in most cases that means free only for personal use.

Hi,

Although Mike gave you an excellent answer, there is also an option to look on your own pc first. Maybe you dont know but you have 100's of nice icons on your pc already installed. The only problem is , where and how do they look. So Carlos Aloitti made this nice program to show you, just download and run. Go to his blog:

Mike,

Thanks.
I was not looking for icons, but I see how they can be useful to me, too. (I would just love to replace some of those I already use with the new nice sets).

Jockey2,

I was always able to find all those icons on my computer with a regular Windows search, without additional software.
I used some of them for in-house applications, and edited some of them manually for my needs. But I do have doubts about using them in distrubutable/commercial applications. They are probably covered by some copyrights.

(As an aside, it's funny that while most new computers don't even have a floppy drive, an image of a floopy is still a universal icon for "Save" buttons.)

Hi Mike,

What do you mean exactly by "free only for personal use.". Am I able to use them in my app?

Please let me know.

Thanks,
JJ

I didn't notice that phrase initially, but "free only for personal use" means "no" to you question - if your application is not for personal use only. Applications that you/your company are making for profit do not constitute personal use. For all other cases, you should check all the details of the agreement or contact the site/icon owners/copyright holders.

I'm in exactly the same situation. I've always either created my own icons or adapted those that I've found on my computer. But my present project is for a mass-market commercial application, and copyright / ownership is especially important. I'm going to have to either buy some professional icons or get the client to commission an artist to create our own.

By the way, I can recommend a utility named Icon Lover, from Aha Soft ( (strange name). As well as being an icon editor, it will also search files, folders or drives for all icons, and extract them to a library. Extremely useful.
