Sounds like a Windows interface problem more than a SQL Server issue. Have you tried logging out and logging in Windows? How about rebooting? If you want to get the best answer for your question read faq183-874 and faq183-3179. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

This is a issue with MMC having leaks with pluggins and using up resource.
Rule #1 NEVER run MMC on your actual SQL Server. Always run it remotely because if you have to reboot to reclaim the resources you won't bring down your database.
In a 5 day course normally every one of my students would get this behaivor. Sometimes on the first day sometime (rarely) not at all. I don't know if 2000 enterprise manager has the same problem but I've been using and haven't seen it so far.
Interesting. I've never encountered that behavior running EM on my worksation or a server with SQL 7 or SQL 2000. If you want to get the best answer for your question read faq183-874 and faq183-3179. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

Note that our SOE for SQL Server Administration and the T-SQL MOC was NT 4 with SQL 7. We tracked down a tech article on microsoft site that acknowledged the memory leak. It may not happen on W2K.
I'd still advise not to run any programs on actual server. Best to remotely administrate them when ever possible but that is just my opinion. I've seen a good administration machine in one server room. Duel 21 inch monitors.
