Hi,

i use corelDraw to draw icons and export it to gif. Frequently those images have the maximum of 30 pixels diameter. Using antialiasing sometimes it gets bluried in the other hand if i disable this function the image gets jagged. Does anyone have a suggestion for me. Should i use photoshop instead of CorelDraw? What is the best way to create a small gif wich isn´t jagged nor bluried?

Thanks

Use a file format that has a broader color spectrum, like jpg. Gif only supports 256 colors, which means you get color drops for unsupported colors.

That said Photoshop is what I use.

Hope it helps.

I guess that depends on which type of dithering you are using when you create your gif. I have successfully used .gif files for photos, but some photos don't fit well (or convert well) to the gif spectrum (and some files are smaller as jpg's).

That would hole true for icons as well depending on how they are done. If it is 2 solid colors gif should be fine. If it has gradients or soft edges it may not work as a jpg because any unsupported colors will be dropped.

Is that what you meant?

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

256 colors is plenty to make an good looking gif image at 30x30 pixels.

Create your image in rgb, then save to gif using an optimized pallete

I´m talking about small gif files for use in websites, those ones used as linked images (icons) and not windows ico files. I´m planning to use solid colors so that i can use the same colors in every image by creating an unique color palette (like a 16 color, for example). I´ll have smaller files doing this but, in the other hand, I won´t be able to use gradient. I will redraw the hole thing. I think i shouldn´t use detailed pictures.

Thanks for your help.

If you were using photoshop I would tell you to turn off the text anti-aliasing. That should help (but will limit the fonts you can use). I don't know if Corel has that option.
