icon in address bar

ok, i've tried placing an icon in my root web directory, to be placed in the address box and when bookmarked. so why does it seem to only show up in the address box after the fact that the page has been bookmarked, why can't it be seen without bookmarking the page. what did i do wrong? thanx.

that's how it almost works in IE if you are lucky.

search the forums for favicon and find similar tales of woe!

well shucks, from what i've seen thats all i can do. i just have the icon in my root directory, nothing hard coded in the web pages. and it only works after you bookmark the page, go to another page, then come back to that page that was bookmarked. doesn't work if you bookmark, then refresh the page. damn M$. need to get there $%&* together.
