Icon Display - Please help me ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! Once and for all, can someone please explain how you permanently display the favicon.ico in both the address bar and the favourites menu of a browser.........and don't tell me to put the favicon.ico in the root directly and all will be sorted cos it doesn't work!!!

Compare:

- brand new site built only last friday, complete with favicon in root. Result: no icon display.

- built over a year ago, once had favicon in root, got taken off months ago. Result: icon appears for the first time TODAY! The Demon

Hmmmmmm, doesn't explain the inconsistencies I'm experiencing. That tag has been in my code for a year yet the icon only appeared today. Also

Hi mate,

I wouldn't think that it is a server issue unless your host has just enabled .ico files on their server..

BUT, that wouldn't explain why the favicons still did not appear..

Most likely, it is something to do with your cache etc..

Favicons are stored in your temp internet files so if you delete these then your favicon is deleted also.. There is some ways round this but I won't go into that now..

Nah, it's none of that either. I had a scoot around the site earlier and came across a thread that's actually quite amusing to read because so many other people have been having the same problem, the thread's a year old and still no one has solved the problem.
