Hello, I have my ICDN1 exam is a couple of days, Can anyone please give me any advise on the type of questions asked? On the labs are you allowed to use IOS help for example.

I have been studying hard for few months and just want to make sure that I dont get any major surprises in the exam room.

P.s I hope that I am not violating an of the forum rules by asking about exams tips

skk391,

If you have been doing hands-on practice labs again and again so that you don't have to even think to do the basics to config a router you should have no trouble !!!

YES, some help is available ON THE SIM QUESTIONS ONLY but, time is a factor on the CCNA exam for most people - YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO BE LOOKING UP MOST ANSWERS WITH "?"

You could have any number of ways that Cisco can ask you questions that are like a sim but don't include the router sim to actually do it - such as a "drag and drop" question of putting the right command in the right order, you know it by doing it again and again on a router in your lab!

Here is what Cisco says you can expect -

Cisco Career Certification exams include the following test formats:

Multiple-choice single answer
Multiple-choice multiple answer
Drag-and-drop
Fill-in-the-blank
Testlet
Simlet
Simulations

Before taking the exam, candidates should become familiar with how all exam types function-especially the testlet, simlet, and the simulation tool. Such practice will allow candidates to focus their exam-taking efforts on the exam questions rather than on how to correctly use the tools. The tutorial below familiarizes users with the software tools used in Cisco Career Certification exams.

Hope this helps!

Not that you should rely on this either, but take some comfort in the fact that you can have a free retake should you fail:

If this is your first Cisco exam, you might be surprised by some of the questions. Hopefully not, but I remember getting some that always made me sit back in my chair and go "what the....."

Hello guys, passed my ICDN 1 exam today, just though... with a pass of 836, I know I know just about! But at least its a pass. Topics were cdp (troubleshooting), Serial links, ip addressing, Wlan, and general troubleshooting.

On to the ICDN 2 exam now.

What I didnt know was that if you fail you cannot take the exam for another 6 months!! Good job I passed then.

Manys thanks to everyone who gave me pointers along the way...

Big up to Burtbees!!

I think you mis-read the 6 month thing. The last time I failed, you had to wait 7 days. On a Pass, it's 6 months before you can re-take the same exam.

Congrats.

skk391,

You said - "passed my ICDN 1 exam today, just though... with a pass of 836" just remember, what do they call they guy with the lowest passing score in med school - DOCTOR, sooooo, who cares on the score - you passed !!!!!!!

Congrats, GREAT JOB :)

AND, I think lerdalt is right, if you do fail, you have to wait 7 days, I think it then goes to 30 days and then 6 months with additional failures. In both passing and failing, Cisco wants to keep people from just retaking the exam sooooo many times until they see all the questions :)

Yes, congrats! That score is much more respectable than some people who get 985 and up---SOME people. Know why? Because some that do brain dumps get very high scores---they are good at the "Memory" game. Your score tells me that you went at it by reading books at the very least, and maybe some live equipment. Good for you!

Burt

thanks guys, yes I keep away from the brain dumps etc. No good for interviews and real life. I just read books and practiced & practiced on real kit in my home lab.

Much like SKK391, I am about to take the CCENT1 test. Have been studying Wendell Odoms book and Transcenders like crazy, do well on the tests. Question: what percentage of sim questions are on the CCENT1 test? The test materials I have been using have very limited sim scenarios. Anyone with any suggestions, or idea of how much SIM material is on CCENT1 test?

tycobrahe,

Welcome to the Cisco cert area, you really should post your own question and not add on to SKK391's post.

As for your question, you will have several different types of questions and some will be "sim like" in that they might ask you a multi guess question as to what the next command would be, or drag and drop the steps of doing "xyz" in the right order.

But a true sim, in which you have to config a router or a switch with a Cisco simulator as part of the test, you could see from 1 to 3 of these question.

Hope this helps!
