Hi Folks,
I recently took a trace of my PC dialing into my local ISP. Once successfully connected via PPP, I notice my pc sent several ICMP solicitation frames to an address of 224.0.0.2. Can anyone tell me if there is something special about that address? Is it a reserved address of IP subnet?

Carl T.

Yes, 224.0.0.2 is a well known multicast address that all routers listen to. If you send an IP packet to 224.0.0.2, you are saying "attention all routers on this subnet."
