ICMP Echo Request to long (From Websphere server)

When running Websphere, every 12 minutes it is making an ICMP request(ping) to a datastore (I am assuming to keep the session from timing out).This has a is greater than the firewall will allow (Max ping set to 548bytes - RFC recomended)

Does anyone know how to adjust the ping packet length sent by websphere?.

The default OS(AIX) ping length is 54 bytes so i know this isnt an OS generated request.

issues seems to be with Websphere using JT400 (AS400 toolkit) for connection management. but still no closer to a solution
