Due to a recent troubleshooting during the virus outages we discovered that filtering ICMP in our routers prevented DNS from properly running, i.e. clients stopped getting DNS responses from the DNS Servers at the other side of the access-lists. This is the first time I get to know about this. Do all clients in all versions of BIND send ICMP queries before actually sending DNS queries? I'm completely lost here, as I thought this was not a requirement, and ICMP was sent by the DNS Name Servers only in case of need according to UDP protocol, but not everytime there is a DNS request.
I'd appreciate any help here. Thanks in advance!
