Can anyone explain the process used by ICA to attach a client to a published app/desktop within a Server Farm....????

We are running the Clients and Servers with IP only..

Is the process controlled solely by the Master Browser...????

Thanks............

Hi a quick answer, the process in whole is described in free whitepapers at
When you set up a ICA-client the first thing you do is to find a new application set (publisheed applications within a server farm). During this process, the client uses UDP port 1604 (broadcast) to find Master browsers. If something is in the way (switch etc.) that filters the the port you don't get any response.
Next thing to try is to supply the client with the IP's of the Citrix servers so it can connect directly to the servers. ICA protocol uses port 1494 (TCP).
To get it all to run as smoothly as possible, flirt with your firewall people to get them to open UDP port 1604 and TCP port 1494 up.
In the case of using MetaFrame XP, communication between servers is done on port 2512, ans the CMC communicates with the IMA on port 2513.
To try out wether the ports are open or not to verify communication, I usually use a portscanner and a portmonitor. Portscanner can be found at (bluescan) and portmonitor at (Netmon)

Good luck!

Thanks for ur reply....I think that clarifies it....!!!!

No-one would want to "flirt" with our Firewall people....!!!!
