I have this 3581 IBM machine which has two scsi devices, one for the changer and the other for the tape driv itself. I first used a third party application (as the firmware couldnt be installed on the versionof redhat I was using 2.4.6). That application worked fine as long as it came to talking to the changer. But when it cae to actually witing the data to the tape, it always hung back. The chnager owuld say at this tie, use this tape fomthe libay and back this file to that tape and then the sever had the task of writing the data to the tape. Sincce it always failed, I thought the application couldnt talk to the tape as the server didnt have the river to talkto the tape (it had driver only to the changer), so I switched back to the firmware. I took a server and installed a kernel on which I couldinstall the firmware and then installe dthe drivers ans oterh stuff. Now again I come back to square one. The firmware does create two separate devices, one for the changer and the other for the tapedrive. I can then talkto the changer to load a particualr tape and to teh drive, but again when it comes to actually writing stuff to the tape, it hangs again doing nothing or worse freezing each time.
Now, I was wodering if there could be a problem with acbling and termination, but I guess none of the devices would have wokred in that case.
So please advise, where should I start looking to troublshoot.
Thanks.
