I just finished setting up AIX 5.2 and am new to the 5.2 environment. Everytime I reboot, the system prompts the terminal for the terminal type. Once I choose a type, I'm sent to a smit screen for date. After hitting f10, I can finally login as root. Is there something I need to change? I've already set the smit chtty screen properly and this display as I want once logged in as root. Thanks again!

There is an entry in /etc/inittab that runs "smit install_assist". I don't remember the name of the inittab entry.

Rather than pressing F10, go to the bottom of the smit menu where it says somethinmg like "finish installation" or something like that. This will remove the entry from inittab.

If you are willing to post the contents of /etc/inittab, I'll show you which one. You can remove it manually.

The entry was

install_assist:2:wait:/usr/sbin/install_assist </dev/console >/dev/console 2>&1

I did as you suggested (not hitting F10) and chose the option that said something like "Finished setting up tasks". This removed the inittab entry.

Thanks for your help. I'll reboot tomorrow to test this.

Thanks again!
