hey,
i have an ibm x3650 m3 server that boots completetly to the end but just after some few minutes it shutdowns completely ,
i have no idea where to start troubleshooting.
i tried changing the power cables, connecting to power adapters at once, rearranging the ram on the slot as indicated but nothing
just the same problem.
has anyone come across such problem or may be knows how to go about solving this.

Sounds like a bad power supply to me. Could be motherboard or processor, but I'd start with a new or known good power supply if you can beg/borrow/steal one.

What does this mean? Do you mean TWO power adapters. Clarify.
connecting to power adapters at once

Start with Light Path Diagnostics, little blue release on front of server, pull it out, any error lights lit? Check the back of the server, there will be lights for the power supplies, should be green. Reduce it to minimum config, one cpu, 2 or 4 dimms, whatever the minimum is, and remove all adapters, and raid hba, backplanes, and sas cables. should still be able to boot. Also, do not use any adpter cables for a kvm, for troubleshooting, always, use a discrete keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Last, if you know the login for the IMM, you could login to the IMM and pull the logs, and see what they can tell you. If you need help to login to the IMM, go to IBM portal, and read the redbook, because it is too involved to describe here.

yes i meant two power adapters @goombawaho,
and on the light path diagnostic there isn't any error light lit...there is just an light code 'EF' i dont know what that means@rclarke250...i will try out what you guys suggested but if there is any other thing u can suggest i'ld appericiate.
thanks.

and sorry guys, one more thing i tried to power it on know it shutdowns, and at the back of the serverthe lights for the power supply are ok just illuminating green but on Light Path Diagnostic there is a light lit on the BRD

I'm going to bow out of this. When I had IBM servers there wasn't any fancy diagnostics like that. But I don't find that code from a quick search!

Sounds like a bad cmos battery or a bad system board. Per IBM for that model:

Check the LEDs on the system board to identify the component that caused the error. The BRD LED can be lit due to any of the following reasons:
Battery
Missing PCI riser-card assembly
Failed voltage regulator
Check the system-error log for information about the error.
Replace any failed or missing replacement components, such as the battery or PCI riser-card assembly.
If a voltage regulator has failed, (trained service technician only) replace the system board.

sorry for boring you guys its not light code as i said but i think its a checkpoint code Ef....i dint know its exact name to refer it. and am actually quite not an expert in servers diagnostic issues but would appreciate if you guys wont get bored with me. and help me along to solve this. for now i will try out your sugestions then i'll get back to you guys.
thanks alot

I think you need professional service to arrive and deal with it!!
