My son has a IBM Thinkpad A30 and we're having a problem after we enter the administators password. After entering the password we just have a blue screen. The cursor is on the screen and functioning but we can't get windows to operate.

Press and hold the F8 key during startup, select "Last Known Good Configuration" from the Startup menu using the arrow keys, and press Enter.

...or select "Safe Mode" after pressing F8. If you get into Safe Mode, Try System Restore (Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools> System Restore>Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time if WinXP, if another OS please report back w/ OS.

Or, in Safe Mode, go to Start>Run> type "msconfig" (without the quotes) > Startup and uncheck anything that is non-essential or even questionable. Many apps drop themselves into the startup folder and one of those could be the culprit.

If you can get into Safe Mode with Networking download Spybot S&D

Update and run a scan, do the same with Adaware

And SpywareBlaster:

Best of luck!
