I recently bought a used thinkpad 390E off ebay. I got it in the mail and loaded windows 98 onto it. However, after windows 98 was installed, i cant get out of VGA mode and can't get the resolution any higher than 640x480. All the drivers are current. However, under Display Properties > Settings, for the video card it says i have "Default Monitor on STandard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA).", however, according to this computers specifications, i shoudl have a "NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV video control chipset with 2.5MB of video memory". Now, either the seller somehow took out this chipset (is this even possible with a laptop?) or i'm doing something wrong. i tried loading new drivers off the windows 98 CD, but it said that all my drivers for this device were current. I really appreciate any help that anyone has on this issue.

By the way, how do i go about opening the case so i could check to see if the video card has been taken out? it doesnt open like the older IBM laptops i have owned.

thanks for your time.

ok no one has taken the video card out you just dont have the proper drivers for your video chip since you know what type it is suppose to have go to something like and look for the right drivers. they more than likely are not on the windows 98 cd
