Having an IBM SW Maintenance contract due on a P series, AIX 6.1, that's running software (Oracle 11.2, Websphere 7, JDE) that's now being frozen of any developments or change as it's all being ditched to go onto the parent company existing ERP system in 2.5 years, do we renew or not?
Aware there will be no entitled to any AIX support/patches/fixes/new release/firmware.
Thanks.

Do a Cost-Benefit-Risk analysis. How much do you save? How much would you probably have to spend if there's a problem? And what's the likelihood of a problem? Then, decide if you want to buy the "insurance", aka the support contract?

It's not knowing what those costs would be if there was a problem - how long after opt out as back dated contract costs! Hmmmm! And AIX is very reliable ...
