Can a RS/6000 boot from ESS (Shark) disks?

According to "bootinfo -B" on my system, yes. I've never tried it though.

Actually, I was partially correct -

On my F50 ESS connection, it claims to be bootable.
On my old 570, it claims to NOT be bootable.
On my R50, it claims to be bootable.
