I just installed an Ultra 160 SCSI Adapter in my IBM eServeron which I would like to connect a HP SureStore Dat8 Tape Drive. I have SCO Unix 5.0.4 installed on the server.

The server recognises the SCSI and tape drive at boot. SCO seems to recognise the SCSI as there is ab ad160 entry as SCO loads.

I then proceeded to MKDEV TAPE and try to setup SCSI Tape device.
The tape does not work

How can I be sure the right drivers were setup by sco 5.0.4? Or is there a step I left off?

How do I set up this tape drive?

Hello
Does the OS recognize that the host adapter is there. Look at your /usr/adm/messages file or /usr/adm/hwconfig file to check and see if the host adapter is recognized. I have the exact same tape drive in my system and it has worked fine under 5.0.4 and 5.0.5. The next thing is that this drive is a single ended high voltage SCSI2 drive. Why are you trying to attach it to a U160 host adapter that is LVD. One of your problems might be with termination. Check that out very closely. The DDS drive does not have a built in terminator. If it is the last device on the chain you must supply termination !!! Another thing is that if you run this tape drive on the same SCSI bus as your U160 Hard Drives, You will slow all other drives down to non ultra SCSI speeds !! When you invoked mkdev tape did you supply the correct host adapter name "ad160"(driver name) or whatever kind of host adapter you have ? Did you supply the correct ID number that your drive is configured with ? Post some more info on your exact configuration and will try to help you out.
