IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS V3.3 Preview 1

I ran accross this article (

while surfing the net.

I thought the new XML GENERATE verb that generates XML from a data item was interesting.

Is this COBOL an offshoot of COBOL II, or a different product altogether?

VS COBOL II, Release 4 was replaced by

SAA AD/Cycle COBOL/370 which was replaced by

IBM COBOL for MVS & VM which was replaced by

IBM COBOL for OS/390 & VM which was (not on VM) replaced by

IBM Enterprise COBOL V3R1 (then V3R2 and now V3R3)

All of the compilers AFTER VS COBOL II require the LE run-time library.

Only Enterprise COBOL will be supported by IBM by this time next year. (Although object code produced by earlier compilers is supported in MOST environments as long as the LE run-time library is used).
