This would tend to suggest a fault with either the docking station and/or the power supply.If you have access to another supply,try that then let us know how it goes.
Assuming the power connector is standard,there is a "switch" in the power inlet which lets the laptop know when the adapter is in...this may also be faulty.
Could also be to do with your setup in Power Management probably in BIOS or there may be proprietry software controlling the power regulation etc.
Need to check these things first
