I just bought a used IBM 760 XL on Sunday. It has an external floppy and new IBM 20x CD-ROM. It originally had TEAC 6x cd-rom
Also has a
3COM Megahertz XJ-CC4288 PCMCIA modem (<--- the problem) and a
3COM Megahertz Ethernet LAN PC Card (589E)
I haven't tried the LAN card yet.

My girlfriend and I use Juno Platinum ($9.95/month for no pop-up ads) to access the internet.(I'm using her computer now. She has Juno 3.0 on her PC)

Sunday night the laptop works like a champ. I install juno, import her acct, get on the net and surf for a couple hours.
Monday, I find out Juno doesn't allow concurrent accounts so I delete her account from the 760XL and sign up for my own acct (Juno 5.0)
Now, my laptop won't stay consistently connected to the net. I'll be in the middle of typing something and poof! disconnect. I'm not sure what to do, I know nothing about laptops. I have no idea what I did, and I don't know if the 760XL is set up well or not.
Anyone have any tests/ideas ?
thanks,

You don't mention what Operating System you are using, so I shall provide a somewhat-generic answer:
You may wish to enable logging for your modem. After the unexpected disconnect, you could then check your modem log to see the cause of the disconnect and proceed from there.
Aside from the required PCMCIA drivers for the modem and Lan cards (which should be OK since you were able to connect OK previously), the fact that this is a laptop PC should not really have any effect on functionality or troubleshooting procedures for your particular OS.
