Any Ideas ? - we have no manual !

OK, if it's anything like my 6400 line printer then the configuration will be done on the printer through the menu. You just have to scroll through the menu options until you get to the ethernet interface menu and you can change from there.

If not, then you can "probably" do it through AS/400 commands. I'm looking right now for how to do it (my printers are on twinax, so I've never done it). Might want to try "go printer" and see if there is something you can do from there, or "go network" and see if you can change the description.

I'm having an IBM rep come over today for some maintenance, so I'll be sure to ask him about it today. Hopefully we'll get this narrowed down for you. J.R. Juiliano

Yup, the rep said you can configure it through the printer menus.

Hopefully it is not locked, and you can just change the settings on it.

If you are under maintenance with IBM you can probably get a decent manual for it for free! J.R. Juiliano

Sorry, not making myself totally clear.

I need to change the printer itself, not the AS/4000 config.

Right, you have to go through the menus on the printer.

First, go here for the user setup guide (since you didn't get a manual)
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/printers/manuals/np17/g5445346.pdf

Second, go here for more information:

That second one will show you information on how to configure your printer. Your printer came up as a Network Printer 17 (laser) when I did a search on IBM's web site.

Hope that gets you somewhere. J.R. Juiliano
