I need the CD-ROM driver for an IBM PC 300XL. The drive is an 8x. The file name is z51t03a.exe but is not available anymore from the IBM website. The Windows boot disk doesn't have the proper drivers for this CD-ROM. I can't re-install Windows without it. Can anyone help?

Sure, i bet you can get it from driverguide.com, or another similar name. If not that name just go to google (google is our best friend) and type a few words in and you will find your drivers.
I cant remember the last time i couldnt find drivers using google, its been a long time!!

Have you tried boot disks from (I'm pretty sure some have different generic CD drivers to the standard MS ones)?

Also, which operating system are you trying to install? (install CD should be bootable if its a full version and win98 or later)

It has been a while, but I think the 98 bootdisk worked on the 300.

Some of the old CD players actuall plugged into the audio board (not IDE), and had proprietary drivers. It may be easier to buy a new $19.00 IDE drive. Faster .... and standard drivers!

Thanks to everyone for their quick responses and tips. This is the FIRST forum where I actually got help and so quickly! I'll be telling a lot of people about this great forum!
The O/S I'm trying to install is Win98 SE. The boot disk did not install the correct drivers for the CD drive. I tried searching Google and found the driver on driverguide.com and it directed me to the IBM web site where the driver was no longer available.
I think I'll try micker377's advice and hook up another CD-ROM, try to get Win98 installed then plug the IBM drive back in and see if Win98 recognizes it. Hopefully I won't have to physically change the CD drive - which is major surgery on an old IBM desktop.
Just so everyone can have a good laugh - my problem originated because when I formatted the hard drive, I didn't put a space between the format command and /S and I wiped out all the system files.
If everything works out - I'll be wonder Nana again with a very happy grandson!! Thanks to all.

You might try calling them at: 1-800-237-5511

I note that the drive you are looking for was at their ftp site but no longer, which is likely what you were referring to.
If you cant find it here then try getting on a few different forums and ask for the driver. Sooner or later someone will have it.
I will look around my files, but it could take me some time, not sure if i even have it, but i will try.
