First of all I can't find out for sure what this services is and what it is doing or used for.

My problem is when I rebooted my windows 2000 server last night IAO.exe service tried sucking up huge amounts of ram which crashed the server. I also noticed it created a 4 gig data file which I removed it to finaly get my server back up. Now its sucking up 400mb of memory. Is this normal?

Some other helpful info you may need to know.
I'm running
win 2000 server
exchange 2000
sql 2000
symantec corp virus protection(seperate smtp filter)

I have 2 gigs of ram
Big memory users
store.exe 786mb usage
sglservr.exe 402mb usage
iao.exe 401mb usage
every thing else under 10mb

My total mem usage is @ 4 gigs which is another concern I have.

Thanks

I am working with this to. Anyone out there got any info/advice???

Thanks

I would really help if anyone had any links about the service or can tell me about the service.

Thanks

What is IAO.exe? "Intel Alert Originator". AMS2 (Alert Management System) Alert Originator service. Allows for alerts to be received on this machine. Alerts can be received from either the local machine (in the case of a primary server) or a remote machine (in the case of unmanaged AV clients using a centralized AMS server).

Part of Symantec. DB can get corrupted. May need to be reinstalled. Good luck!!

See this or this for more details...

There appears to be a bug with IAO.exe (Intel Alert Originator)corrupting it's log file which NAV corp ed uses to send alerts. Try uninstalling and re-installing NAV. Upgrade to 9.0 if you can.

Thanks jtb
