I am a technician for a small 40 PC network. I have one PC that whenever she restarts the PC she gets an message box that pops up that reads: I81 Shell error.

I have been unable to find out any information from Microsoft website or any other website as to what this means. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I am sure you have already checked this but.

Could be worth checking what the PC is starting each time on a reboot, are there any redundant items in the startup menu.

Or anything in the registry that attempts to start in bootup, that is not longer there.

Is it only on a restart or from a cold boot?? As if this is the case it may be worth creating a restart icon, that releases all the resources.

This is outlined in microsoft technote Q234126.

Hi,

try

hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\runservices

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\runservices

This where I believe that windows attempts to start most progams from.

I am unable to find the tech note Q234126 anywhere on the Microsoft site. Am I looking in the wrong place. I did a search on Microsoft for Q234126 and got no results returned
