I am trying to set up the I2002,i2004 and i2050 soft phone at remote locations. I am successful in using a netgear vpn solution, it works well, i know nortel recommends using a vpn, but it is supposed to work without the need of a vpn. I can get the set to initialize but either one way audio or no audio, I know it is a simple fix, but i have no clue what that fix is. I have read and read trying to find the answer, i believe it is a port issue but i can no find the answer to get the phones to work without a vpn solution. any help would be appreciated.

Your ISP may be blocking ports. VPN is the best solution.

thank you for your reponse nsantin. I appreciate it.I have called Bell and they tell me that all ports are open. I am ex Bell and I asked a buddy to check for me, otherwise, I would be unable to believe 100 per cent what they tell me.

The hunt continues......

What do you mean by:
"I am successful in using a netgear vpn solution"?

Are you behind a VPN/Router/NAT appliance that is connecting to your network? If you have already established a VPN connection into your netwrok then try pointing the IP sets to the internal IP of the BCM.

Otherwise, check the published IP on the BCM, if you want to get to the BCM through the WAN side then make sure it is setup as LAN2 (external)

1 more thing, do you have this issue when you dial out on a POTS line, or just when calling other remote IP sets?

I have a Netgear VPN router/fireall at two other locations. Systems all work perfectly through the VPN. I just am trying to get the system to work without having to use a VPN. I know I can get Netgear Client Licenses, but again I am using a VPN to make it work. My goal is to have mass users working from remote without having to use a vpn. i.e. a client in another country that can access our internal telecom system without having access to our network.

thanks again,
fonguy

If you are behind a NAT firewall, voice packets back to the phone might not ever hit it. I never managed to get this to work on a BCM myself, but you might try putting the phone in the DMZ if you are using NAT.

Good luck!

Michael

DMZ is set to the BCM, also using a static IP. I have gotten the phone to initialize, and to make and receive calls, both internal, intercom between office locations and external trunk lines. I get just one way or no audio at all.

thanks
