I2050 Softphone Licensing error

I've got several users using Nortel's I2050 Softphone client Version 3. That version gets licenses from a server app. I've used this licensed version for about 8 months and everything has worked fine up until now. Now SOME of my users are getting licensing failure, some are not, and they are configured the same! Has anyone had experience with this odd problem ?

you can downgrade to an earlier version that doesn't require a liscense. you probably know that.
