Have a BCM50 with 5 i2050 phones that I need to get working. I can connect directly to the BCM, download the softphone, connect ok, assign the DN, get dial tone ets.. Everything works fine Problem is, when I connect the BCM to the customers network, the phone cannot find the DHCP server (which is the BCM). Funny thing is, the customer contact has Element Manager loaded on her PC and can connect to the BCM, log in, make changes no problem. BCM's ip address 12 192.168.1.2/24. When anyone tries to go to this address to download the softphone, they get an eror saying the connection is refused but we can ping it OK..
spoke with their networking guy but he has no idea of what is causing the problem and is just laughing at us. Customer is ready to throw the system out because this application is the only reason they bought it.
Anybody ever have this problem. I'm being driven crazy by these folks.

Thanks.

Sounds like maybe a DHCP server conflict. If you have the DHCP server turned on on the BCM, and the customer has another device (router, server, whatever)connected to the LAN that is doing DHCP it can cause a conflict. Make sure that there is only one thing doing DHCP-either the BCM or whatever the customer is using.

Thanks for the response. I guess I should have indicated that that was the first thing we checked. These guys that are laughing at us swear that they are not using a DHCH server there and that all devices on the network are statically assigned. It sure smells like they are BS'ing us because this sure smacks of a conflict. I guess I'll put a sniffer on it and see what shows up.

Wait- do you mean that on the server page of the configuration utility for the softphone, you have it set to obtain automatically? Because you should have the IP address of the BCM in there.

I have the softphones set to DHCP and the only DHCP server on their network is the BCM which in turn has a static IP on their network. According to all the documentationI have read, that's the proper way to set it up. If not, I hope to be enlightened.

Thanks.

In the Config menu of the softphone under Communication Server it has to be the BCM Address. It says use the following server address/port 7000.

emilysdad-I have never done it like that. I have always put the IP address of the BCM in using the configuration tool, and I've never had an issue. Try it and see what happens. Like cook1082 says, you need to make sure that you change port to BCM/7000 and also go to the server type page and choose BCM there as well

OK guys, I'll give that a try.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

under comm server I have
use the following IP address
IP address (BCM IP)
PORT 7000

DHCP is only an option that you can use.....You can always set the laptop up with a static IP address and manually configure all of the settings on the 2050 softphone....After you know it is working, then you can try to get the DHCP server going.....

to ktludwig---I haven't been able to get back there yet but my boss did ask me about tonight. Hoping to get there tomorrow or Monday. I will certainly set it up the way you suggest and if it works, I'm leaving it that way and getting out while the gettin's good.

Thanks again and I will keep you posted.
